How To Start Running

1) Do some initial research:

 2) Set a very large goal (Marathon)

3) Follow a program and be know that consistency is the only way to keep the momentum going. http://www.active.com/running/articles/a-10-week-plan-to-run-5k-for-beginning-runners

 4) Surround and submerse yourself with others who run

  • Facebook running groups.
  • Meetup.org running groups.
  • Local running store running groups.
Birds of a feather, flock together. Your behavior can best be predicted by the behavior of the people you surround yourself with. This is key.

 5) Set short-term goals and begin running as many running races as you can.

5k, 10k, etc. races. They are everywhere.

 6) Emotionally attach to running.

Mentally anchor your emotional needs to running. If you believe that running is the only thing that can give you the emotionally relief you need and feed this thought into your mind like a virus, your mind will attach onto it and soon your behavior will be congruent with your thoughts.

 7) Running is not about the monotony of one step over another, its means to an end to allow your body and mind to decompress, to revive and to feel good.

Running is about building your psychological strength

 8) Know your why. Your purpose has to be greater than your pain. If the reason you're running is greater than the pain of the action, you will run.

9) Ungers Law: You must see yourself as your own Hero.
